Statistics on Suicide:
Over 49,000 people have died by suicide in 2022–that’s 1 death every 11 minutes.
The suicide rate among males in 2022 was approximately four times higher than the rate among females. Males make up 50% of the population but nearly 80% of suicides. (Gendered language from CDC.)
Between 2000 and 2022, rates increased approximately 36%.
Non-hispanic Native American and Alaskan-native experience suicide rates at a disproportionately higher rate than other race/ethinicities.
5.2% of adults aged 18 and older in the United States had serious thoughts about suicide in 2022. That’s 13.2 million people.
